Furtwangen is the highest town in Baden-Württemberg, located in the valley of the upper Breg, one of the two source rivers of the Danube. A thriving economy, sights and a wide range of leisure and cultural activities make the city of watches worth living and loving. The fact that Furtwangen in the Black Forest is a popular holiday destination for holidaymakers is mainly due to the intact nature and the wide range of leisure activities for those seeking relaxation and active holidaymakers alike. In Furtwangen you can go hiking, swimming, cycling, tennis (indoor and outdoor), horseback riding, fishing and much more. In winter we offer you skiing on several ski lifts, over 50 km of cross-country skiing trails and winter hiking.

The story:

In the early 17th century, farmers on the farms around Furtwangen began making the first Black Forest clocks during the snowy winter months to supplement their meager livelihood. At that time, they were still very simple timepieces with just one hand, made almost entirely of wood. Over the years, these watches have been further developed. In the 18th century, percussion and musical works were finally installed. The first cuckoo clock was made in 1740; whose inventor was Franz Anton Ketterer. In 1850 the state watchmaking school was founded in Furtwangen. The German Clock Museum is one of the largest museums of its kind. With more than a thousand examples from all eras, the German Clock Museum has the most extensive clock collection
