Mount Yerupaja belongs to the Cordillera Huayhuash, a mountain range in the Andes.
It is located in northern central Peru and is also the second highest mountain there, making it the highest peak in the Cordillera Huayhuash
The summit of Yerupaja is very rarely climbed successfully and is considered one of the most difficult Andean peaks that a climber can choose.
In 1950 the summit of Yerupaja was climbed for the first time.
The two Jim Maxwell and Dave Harrah managed to reach the summit first.
Just 15 years later, two Wellington men Roger Bates and Graeme Dingle managed to scale the northern peak of Yerupaja Norte.
